Brave VS Madagascar 3

I had a movie marathon with my youngest son since his sister's have been away at camp. He misses them, especially my 11yr old daughter who's his best buddy.

So what is a mom to do? I played hide and seek, let him beat me in all the video games of his choice and allow him to hang out with his 17yr old big brother.

And when all that failed - I took him to a double feature. BRAVE and MADAGASCAR 3-Europe's Most Wanted!

Oh boy did he want to see this. He loves animals and just gets hyped up at a new Madagascar flick.

* I have to say, I love the title! MADAGASCAR 3-Europe's Most Wanted *

Here's the Blurb from IMdB:

Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style.

Here's my 8yr old's and my review:

Now I will preface this to say my husband 'grudgingly' came along. My 8 yr old went from flipping out - to staring with jaw dropped - to laughing outloud - to asking us if he can see it again (like right after the movie ended he wanted that to be his double feature.) Now to my husband's 2 cents, "That was good, I'll stay with him and take him to see it again - if you want to go see BRAVE." *jaw dropped* Okay, so yeah, it was really good. It had enough humor for parents, action + colors and great music for an 8yr old, and as far as circus' go, the best darn circus I've ever seen. We gave this 5 out of 5 cannons!

Now to the 2nd Movie we went to see:

My most desired movie to see was BRAVE. I have to admit I was totally biased when I took him to see this movie - AFTER - Madagascar.

Here's the Blurb: *Of which I have to admit never made me want to see the movie, just the girl with the wild red hair and the bow got me at 'hello' *

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida' ;s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late.

Our Review: I'll start with my 8yr old. He thought it was alright, but .... MADAGASCAR3 was 'way better' *say what?* Okay, my husband he thought it was cute and a total 'girlie movie' but he sat through it (but not with the same enthusiasm or laughing he did with uhum - that other movie). As far as my review goes, I loved it! And yes, it was a total mother/daughter movie. A spoiled hot-headed redhead daughter who wished her mother was not her mother. She didn't realize that the wish would turn her mother into a bear. The only thing I didn't like - okay, it wasn't a big deal but I kinda wanted it anyway was...a love interest, that didn't happen so I give the movie 4 out of 5 arrows (My 8yr old gave it 3.5 out of 5 thumbs up and my husband promised to take the 8yr old to see Madagascar 3 again).

The reviews for Brave haven't been that good. Glad to hear Madagascar3 was great though.

LM I TOTALLY agree about BRAVE. I told my friend the exact same thing--it would have been better with a love interest. Still, as far as a mother daughter movie goes it was good. They probably should have promoted it as such too.

It seemed SO original in the previews and then sort of just lost the magic some of the way through. Still, not a bad movie, but not the best. Still, I LOVE Tangled :)

Both movies seem charming, which reminds me that I haven't seen an animated movie in a while. Thanks for the recs.

Oh my, you took me straight back to when my son was that age. They are the most incredible bundles of energy and demands! That is so great that the movie was fun AND that your husband wanted to take him to see the encore. Some private chill-out time for mom!

Oh you all know I'm a movie fanatic and of course love to write but experiencing movies with kids makes it all the more richer. When he grows up I'm going to have to offer to babysit so I can enjoy just watching how the movie unfolds on kids faces.

I hope you're going to take your daughter to see Brave when she gets home from camp! I saw it with my 18-y.o. daughter and loved it. I'm glad it didn't go with the usual romantic solution. Nothing wrong with a story with a strong female lead and NO prince charming!

I've always wanted to go to a double feaure of films...besides the drive- in because you always get at least two movies there. I'm glad you liked both films, and at least your son and husband enjoyed the first one a ton. My mom and I are planning to see Madagascar 3 tomorrow so I'm glad it's a fun one!

I really want to see Brave- it just looks so cute! Plus, I love the bow, too. A strong female always gets my vote. Madagascar sounds fantastic. I still think I will see Brave first!

Gosh, LM, as I read your first sentences I felt like I was reading my own life, right now. My little guy seems to be alone a lot now, because his siblings are a bit older than him and are always 'away from the house' or 'too busy' for him.

And I really, really want to take my youngest to see Brave!!

it is obvious that brave is not one of pixar's greatest animated movies.......while to see on other hand madagascar 3 worth the applause.....but truly to say i've got a soft corner for pixar.....so i hope they come out with a fine movie.......
