Plotting a New Series

So IT BEGINS

My new adventure in plotting a new series.

Truth is, I didn't initially plan for this to be a series, but, it just grew.

HOW I DID IT IN THE PAST

Well in the past, I just went with the flow. I didn't plan out the series, the covers, the promotions. However, by working with the Kindle World authors in RUNES UNIVERSE I learned to do a more thorough job of planning my SERIES.

WHAT NO PROMOTIONAL PLANNING COST ME

Cover changes and design changes galore. That was money wasted, but I learned my lesson. This time, I am going to do a better job of it. I have my characters picked out and made sure there are plenty of photos to work with for each for promotional materials and designs.

I lost many advertising opportunities because I didn't have a model with many photos. I also lost many by not completely plotting out my series.

Branding challenges also hit hard when you don't plan your series.

WHAT AM I DOING DIFFERENTLY

1) Outline the entire series
2) Select models for each cover early with many photos
3) Brand the style of the series covers early
4) Brand the world building and find photos for them to use for promo
5) Share more as I write

Phases Of Falling In Love With A Book

HOW IS YOUR LOVE OF A BOOK CAPTURED?

Reader Sending Me Love By showing off my book.

THE PHASES OF FALLING FOR A BOOK.

What is the first thing that captures your attention when you see or hear or are told about a book? Is it like dating? Don't you have a preference for the presentation of the 'first impression'?

THE COVER, THE GENRE, THE BLURB, THE FIRST PAGE, THE RECOMMENDATION?

In most cases it does depend on how and when the book is presented to you. However, I believe the first thing that captures me is....

THE GENRE (you thought I was going to say BOOK COVER right?) Well that's a TIE for #1 COVER and GENRE because I and most readers have their preference for genre and they don't veer to far off from what they are committed to liking.

After most readers have fallen for the THE GENRE and / or BOOK COVER the RECOMMENDATIONS come in to play and can OVER SHOOT the INFLUENCE of the BOOK COVER

DO YOU BELIEVE A GOOD RECOMMENDATION WILL OVER THROW a LACK of COVER LOVE?

I do, there are personal taste in color and theme that a reader has for their genre and will overlook a good book match because of that. However, if a friend or a review speaks highly of that book, they will likely bite and  move on to the NEXT ELEMENT of FALLING into BOOK LOVE.

THE BACK COVER BLURB

This is getting close to clenching the heart of the reader. If the back cover blurb PERSUADES without TELLING THE ENTIRE TALE and seduces the reader further, then the reader just might, move to the FINAL STAGES of falling in love.

UNWRAPPING the FIRST PAGE

Now we are getting closer to the goal. If that book grabs the reader in the first 5 sentences, then LOVE BLOSSOMS and the reader grabs the book.

HOW DO YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH A BOOK? Even before you delve inside?
