Rise of The Planet Of The Apes - Movie Review

IMDb Blurb:

An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

My Review:

I have to forewarn you I used to run home from school to watch The Planet of the Apes when I was a kid. But the truth was, I figured it was a far off planet in a distant galaxy. Well, this one was one my husband really wanted to see. Me, I didn't want to see it so much, but...I must say, I enjoyed it as a pre-qual to The Planet of the Apes. Now, you know though that Draco Malfoy kid from the Harry Potter movies was in this. But I must say, the best actor in the entire movie was...the monkey, Caesar. I actually fell in love with him. I identified with his struggle and I cheered for him. I took my kids also to see this one and we all agreed that although it got off to a somewhat slow start, it earned a 4 out of 5 monkeys because we just couldn't help but fall in love with Caesar.

If you want to see the first movie, Planet of the Apes, which was okay.

Good Review! This is that rare summer movie that has brains and emotion in addition to the spectacle. It is also such a great film that it makes us forget about the 2001 piece of junk that Tim Burton tried to do but actually failed. Check out my review when you can!

LM, I saw the movie tonight and I enjoyed it. It did have a slow start but my whole family loved it in the end. And you are right - Ceasar stole the movie. He was absolutely brillant. I loved him. It had depth and emotion - something lacking from the first. Thanks for another awesome review.

Ironically, I saw the original Planet of the Apes with my father. I say ironically, because he was never really a big one for movies or "frivolous" reading, etc. His fun was textbook reading - for reals, loved it. Loves it, I should say. But once in a while he would take me to a movie the year I lived with him (I was 13). Once we saw Jaws (way too intense for him) and another time we say 2001 Space Odyssey. And we saw Planet of the Apes. It's possible that he picked it because of the science aspect. Loves science. I remember he liked quite a bit, really getting into the idea of chimps talking. He's always been a big believer in communicating with animals.

I haven't seen the remake yet, and the prequel sounds like it would be just up my dad's alley. :)

I didn't know Tom Felton (I think that's Draco's real name.) was in this. Really this isn't my kind of movie. Though it does look better than than the old Planet of the Apes with people dressed as apes.

Even though I like action, scifi and romantic comedies mostly, this wasn't something I would have picked to go pay for. But thanks to my husband and I taking turns on picking movies I've widened my taste a lot. Oh, and Kelly, I was shocked he was in it too. He did okay, played a bad guy, and hated the apes.

You know, I've never been a Planet of the Apes fan; however, I saw a short clip on the making of it and was impressed with the technology used. Impressed enough to watch it with my husband and daughter who will definitely want to watch it!

Oh! I've been wanting to see this! I'm glad you think it was pretty good. And Malfoy was in it? Huh, go figure. Perhaps, I shall see it soon. :) I do agree the first one was decent but not super amazing.
