What gets you...what hooks you is the build up...the suspense of it all. The knowing that something REALLY bad is gonna happen and you can't seem to stop yourself from reading more.
I get it, I'm hooked on it, and I don't mind the BORING PARTs because I know that something absolutely shocking is going to happen.
