Well Prometheus upped it a notch.

Wow! Talk about world building. This movie had one of the best space sets I've seen in awhile. Not to mention Charlize Theron who again stole the show. This woman can act her tail off. But she had competition with Noomi Rapace who plaid an awesome role to rival Sigourney Weaver's debut in Aliens. Okay, I told you about the awesome set, now to the thrill ride of the movie. The pros were the set, the tension and the special affects - wow! The alien was impressive. But there were things that ticked me off with thrillers and horror flicks. One, why did the head scientist 'Noomi Rapace' had the nerve to say while they are on their way into unknown territory in space, 'We don't need weapons for a scientific expedition' - wrong! This made no sense since even on archeological digs they have weapons is needed in the country they are going into is hostile. The other thing that got under my skin was, they actually listened to her and didn't take weapons. In addition, when the they go onto the planet - then into a cave they take off their mask. Why would anyone do that?! Okay, so that's the only issue I had with the plot. It was a wobbly one, but the suspense, the thrill, the scenery and the special effects made up for it. I give this baby, a 4 out of 5 alien rating.

I'm living under a writer's rock. I've never heard of this movie. But since I <B Charlize Theron, I think I'll take a look.
Charlize Theron really can act. I've never seen a movie she was in where I didn't like her.
I imagine they took off their masks because the director told them to! No reason paying all those stars if you can't see their faces. lol
Oh, good! I'm going to go see this asap!
Haha...clee just made me laugh. I've heard mixed reviews about this one. Hmmm....
Charlize Theron can definitely act her tail off, but Ridley Scott is an amazing director to have at the helm. I loved your review and it certainly is a breath of fresh air after reading so many long reviews comparing “Alien” to “Prometheus”. That project was supposedly scratched and therefore, the film deserves it’s own chance. I am getting ready to launch a website dedicated to directors and their influence on film throughout their career, which I work on during my frequent business trips for Dish. I’m starting with Kubrick simply because there is no comparison, followed by Scott; I can research their older work with movies by mail using Blockbuster @Home. I subscribe because of the variety in the selection; by the time “Prometheus” is out on DVD I’ll be ready to launch the site.
great review! look forward to seeing this movie especially if it's being compared to aliens (not alien but the sequel) which is one of my all time favorite movies and in my top 10. I will definitely have a problem with the let's not bring any weapons crap cause that's just stupid and unrealistic for the reason you mentioned and obviously a forced part of the plot done to amp up the tension of what goes down. But I'm sure overall I will still enjoy it.
Didn't read your review because I really really want to see this flik and don't want to "spoil" it. Love Ridley Scott's work and can't wait to see it! And yeah, Theron's on fire now with this one and Snow White which I also really want to see!
