How Parties Change from Teen To Adult

Parties! Partee! Partay!

Well after watching Project X which has got to be one of the craziest party experiences moviewise ever I started to realize that the older you get the more boring the parties get.

DO YOU REMEMBER KID PARTIES

My first memory of my birthday party was when I was around 5 yrs old. My great-grandmother actually gave me a Surprise Birthday Party. At that age it was the coolest thing I could have asked for. She had everyone hide - even the adults. And when I got home and she told me she had nothing planned for my birthday, everyone jumped out of their hiding place. I don't even remember the gifts I got I only remember that great experience.

TEEN PARTIES

Wow, when I think back to my first house party as a teen - wowsa! I had a blast, got my first kiss, did my first slow dance and danced in rythm with my girlfriends to show off in front of the boys. And jumped up and down waiting for the next party.

COLLEGE PARTIES

Now I have to admit - out of all the partying I've done in my life -the parties I went to in college was sweat on the wall parties. Man oh Man did I have a blast. I danced all night long (I loved to dance) and we did the soul train line, I was able to drink a bit (never drank to the point of drunkeness since it just wasn't safe and I loved being in control of my actions) but I love to party. The best were at these makeshift clubs called 'go-go's' where street bands played. Also, you couldn't beat a good fraternity party either.

ADULT PARTIES

Now as an adult, I don't even want to go to a party. Why? THEY ARE BORING...all people do now is sit around and talk, drink, and maybe - just maybe I can get someone to play cards. No more dance contest, sweat on the wall, singing outloud to the songs or break dancing.

See why I write YA - I want to relive the party. If you do then go check out the party movie of the year, PROJECT X

DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN PARTYING between the ages?

Good one, LM. I hadn't really thought of how partying changes with age. I don't go to adult parties AT ALL because I can't stay up that late anymore. :(

But a girlfriend of mine holds some serious parties--dancing and Soul Train line included.

...thanks for stopping by my blog this morning, too. :)

You're right - I miss the dancing, playing pool and darts, and anything that gets people up on the floor together! I love thinking of your little five-year-old self all giddy and surprised by your first party!

Adult parties should be themed so that everyone knows what to expect. We have girl's game night once per month, no guys allowed. Poker nights, passion parties, Mary Kaye facial parties, etc. So, why night have a dance-off party? :D

At least that way, you'll know that everyone who shows up wants to dance! But, then again, you might be embarrassed when nobody shows for your party! :(

So true. Weighting the distinctions between different age parties is just as important, when writing a story, as language, attire, and attitude. It makes sense. Nice post.

I'm currently in the "college" age of parties, though nothing like your parties...only b/c I don't do the Greek thing and I've never been a big dancer. My friends and I like to throw random parties though that are usually quite fun. We tend to do the nerdy things, like a Harry Potter party or something. Speaking of which, our next HP party is this Friday and I'm excited! LOL

I went to a party recently that was such a shock because it was so much fun. There was music and dancing...not polite dancing, but busting out in the middle of the circle dancing. One woman actually dropped and did the worm, although her back probably had a spasm later! Most adult parties I attend, though, are tame. If this woman ever has another party, I'm there!

Never thought about it, but you're right! Kids parties are the best, as they have no hesitation in jumping in and having a blast! I think adults can still party, just not as long or hard as we did when we were younger. Most adult parties are boring, so maybe we need to have themes like Diane suggested?
